RNase A

Description

Ribonuclease A (RNase A) is an endoribonuclease containing four disulfide bonds with a molecular weight of approximately 13.7 kDa. It specifically attacks the 3' ends of pyrimidine residues on RNA, cleaving the phosphodiester bonds formed with adjacent nucleotides. Theresulting products of this enzymatic reaction are pyrimidine 3'-phosphate and oligonucleotides with terminal pyrimidine 3'-phosphate. RNase A exhibits the highest activity towards single-stranded RNA (ssRNA) and exhibies different cleavage activities under various reaction conditions. At low salt concentrations (0-100 mM NaCl), RNase A is capable of cleaving ssRNA, double-stranded RNA (dsRNA), and the RNA strand in RNA-DNA hybrids. However, at high salt concentrations (≥0.3 M), RNase A selectively cleaves only ssRNA.
