COX has two isomeric forms of COX- 1 and COX- 2. It is a membrane- bound protease involved in the conversion of arachidonic acid to prostaglandins. COX- 2 is an inducible enzyme that participates in the expression of cell growth factors, tumor promoting factors and cytokines, and is highly expressed in breast, lung, and colon cancers. It is mainly used in tumor research and is one of the targets of tumor therapy.
